Artists Statement

For the last two weeks we have been photographing the man-made and the natural beauty of the University of Arizona campus. During this time the borders of campus become magnified. The lines that delineate what is and is not the University become so cleanly cut that it they seem to have almost surgical precision. This surgical precision of lines is something that we have attempted to translate into the photographs contained within this project. The resulting images are intended to offer you a view of the UA campus from the point of view of four average male students. This is our shadow.

Each image was carefully selected by us to try to show our creativity, and feelings for the different shadows. We took pictures of shadows that were on different kinds of services such as grass, water, and concrete to give the images a different feel. The objects that produced the shadows we used were objects around campus that we had a lot of interest in, and or walked by on a daily basis. During this part of the day, the shadows can completely transform the objects into a different perspective. The ligt and angles of the shadows really give them a sense of personality. Within these different perspectives, new objects can be created. What really made this project fun is the fact that everyone will have a different opinion of what they see in each image, in a way making it their own.

Arching Pebbles
By: Keith Miranda
In this photo the crevice in the sidewalk creates a perfect outlining frame for the angled shot. Also the way the stones are stacked from smallest to largest, with the smaller ones fading into the horizon really make this image flow. It really reaches out to the viewer.

Ghost Riding

This photograph gives the impression of the shadow looming beneath the skater, as if surveying the terrain. The angle of the crevice in the sidewalk runs parallel to that of the shadows, giving the image a contradictory appeal.

In reality, the palm tree differs in size largely from the poll. But within the shadows, they are comparable in height.
